How do I get to Newstead Wood School?
The Wood School is based in Newstead, VIC, 3462. Approximately a 1 hour 50 minute drive from the Melbourne CBD and accessible by the V-Line Train service to Castlemaine, which is a 10 minute drive from Newstead. If you need a pickup from Castlemaine, please
get in touch. There’s no guarantee, but I will try my best.

What are the school hours?
Classes run from 9am - 5.00pm, Monday to Friday and occasionally, on weekends.

Where can I stay?
Newstead has some AirBnb accommodation, a small motel and camping options both in and out of town. There is also some accommodation onsite at Newstead Wood School. If you have any questions please
get in touch.

What do I bring?
Hand tool kits are provided, but students are required to bring personal PPE (ear and eye protection and dust mask). Closed-toe footwear must be worn and loose clothing and long hair tied back.

Can I bring my own tools?
Yes, you can. If time allows students will be shown how to tune and sharpen their own tools.

Can I bring my own wood?
Yes, you can, although second hand or salvaged wood cannot be processed using school machinery. If unsure, please make contact prior to your course and we can discuss.

Which course do I start with?
Wooden Plane making and Bandsaw Boxes are both great choices for the beginner student as an entry into their fine woodworking education. For those who a have little more time, the Intermediate Level - Fundamentals # 1, 2 or 3 courses are a perfect place to start.

Cancellation Policy
A course booking may be cancelled up to 2 weeks prior to the scheduled course date and full refund received, minus a cancellation fee of $50. If a cancellation is made within two weeks then a 50% refund is offered. If you have any concerns please get in touch and we will do our best to accomodate.
